Missions Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in Ministry and Missions, here at FBC. We view missions not as events, but as transformational opportunities. We realize the power of becoming the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, or to use a "churchy" word, becoming incarnational. Simply put, it means that we, as the body of Christ, seek to serve others because we are compelled by compassion and we desire to gain an audience to share the gospel. Jesus would often use ministry as an opportunity to gain people's attention so they would listen to the gospel message (Matt. 4:23-25; 9:35-38; Jn. 6:26). Recognizing that the Gospel has power to transform lives through Christ, the early Church leaders sought to model Christ's method for ministry.

Now is our time to assume the role of missionary in the culture that Christ has sent us to live within. Missions occur within the context of a community. For some, those communities may be family, the work place, or extended relationships where people live. For others, God may call them to take his or her ministry of missions to a distant location. We need to consistently be reminded of Jesus' words in Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Jesus' urging for the early Christians to share the good news of Jesus Christ conveys to us the desperate necessity to reach people with the gospel.

There is only a plan "A". There are no other options. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Here are regular opportunities to get involved:

• Jerusalem (Local Missions) - "LOVE Louisville"; Widow's Banquet; Walk to School Days

• Judea (State Missions) - Georgia Baptist Builders

• Samaria (North American Missions) - Disaster Relief; HBA/KBA West Virginia Partnership

• Ends of the Earth (International Missions)

Also, our WMU (Women On Mission) has long been a strong foundation for doing Missions here locally, as well as leading the charge in International Missions. Please see our WMU section for more information.

Don't forget to check out our other links on our website for further opportunities.
